It was a lovely afternoon, and two friends decided to take a walk, as they walked in the park, people kept stealing glances at them. Just when they were about to leave the park, a five year old walked up to them, and said

You both look sooo much alike, and it’s very clear, you love each other. Your parents will be so glad to see you both this way, I wish my brother could show me half of the love I saw in you both in this park today”.

Both friends were very shocked at the confidence of this five year old. The woman, moved closer to the little girl, and with a smile said, “Your brother will. Just ensure you spend quality time with him. And lest I forget, we’re not siblings, but a couple, we’ve been married for 25years, and spend sooo much time with each other.  I guess that’s why we look alike”.

The little girl smiled and walked away as the couple also walked out of the park.
As with this story, I’ve also learned over time, that if you want to be like someone or if you want to imbibe certain qualities you admire in someone else, all you have to do is be around that person, and sooner than you think, there would be a rubbing off, taking place.  It’s kind of like the same thing that happens when you place a warm bottle of soft drink very close to a very cold bottle of soft drink. In a short while, you won’t be able to tell the difference because both bottles will begin to feel the same.

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

Matt 11:28-30 (MSG)

The same holds true for us. We can’t become like Christ if we don’t spend time with Him. But as we spend more time with Him; in His Word, in prayer, in worship and in fellowship with other believers, we become like Him. We begin to better reflect His nature and respond to situations and circumstances in the same way that He would. In other words, it is only by regular fellowship with Christ that we are fully transformed into Christ-like people – people who look like and act like Christ in every sense of the word.

I hope you make a firm decision to spend more time with Him even as He beckons on you to stay with him:

I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. This is how my Father shows who he is—when you produce grapes, when you mature as my disciples.

God Bless you for this post. As 1 John 2:6 says Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived. The only way to know and live as Jesus lived is by having this constant and uninterrupted connection/bond/relationship with Him. This is my ultermost prayer.
