Characteristics of Agape #12: Love ALWAYS Trusts

“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres .8 Love never fails.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (NIV)

I’ll say it again, for emphasis: the God kind of love is unselfish and unconditional.

Just the same way the agape love of God motivates us to always protect the interests of others and to endeavour not to allow any harm come to them, so also does the agape, God-kind of love within us motivate us to always trust/ believe the best of God, our loved ones and even strangers.

By saying that love always trusts, the Bible teaches us that we must learn to always trust in, have faith in and believe in others as a sign of our love for them. Believers loaded with the agape in their hearts shouldn’t be people who are quick to discredit others. Neither should we be people who are constantly suspicious of the motives and actions of those we claim to love.

Also, for love to always trust means that love always trusts that showing love to another person is always the right thing to do’. By this I mean that love never questions whether or not to love another person, it instead chooses to give love to all others even to its enemies because that’s what divine love entails and commands (Matt. 5:44; Mark 12:31).

Trust me. 😉 I know that the heart of man is desperately wicked (Jere. 17:9) and sometimes past hurts tend to make us believe that our lives would be much better if we lived the rest of it never really trusting anybody. Well, that’s why you’re a child of God with access to the wisdom and direction of the Holy Spirit.

As a believer your job is to obey God’s commandment to love others BUT to also be spiritually sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit at all times (Gal. 5:25 NLT). What this means is that while you’re focused on loving others like Christ loves them, you’re also spiritually discerning enough to know if God is trying to caution you about the way you’re relating with someone who may or intends to bring you harm.

Finally, love is “ever ready to believe the best of others” (AMP). This means that love is slow to believe any damaging news about another person. But instead it always gives the other person the benefit of the doubt. May you and I learn to love others like God has equipped us to…Love ALWAYZ trusts.

How about you say this confession with me in faith:

“The love of God has been shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Ghost. I shall endeavor to let that love nature dominate me. I have God’s love nature in my heart – in my spirit. Therefore, I’ll not let my natural reasoning dominate me. I refuse to allow the flesh to rule me. I’m going to walk in the Spirit by walking in love.

I am a lover not a hater.

I will practice and exercise the fruit of love so that it can grow and increase. …….I will make the love of God my great quest in life, for then my love shall abound, and God shall reap the glory.

N.B. The above confession is an excerpt from Rev Kenneth Hagin’s book : ‘LOVE: The way to victory’.
