It’s all up to me!!

One afternoon a few years ago, I found myself walking hand in hand with my then 3-yr old god-son and as I held on to his hand in order to both stay close to him as well as to dissuade him from running off, the Holy Spirit dropped these words in my heart

“Sometimes walking with God feels like an adult walking hand-in hand with a 3-yr old. This is because, just as the adult is forced to shorten his/her paces in order for the child to keep up, we also at some point in our walk with God may feel like God is the reason why we aren’t moving as fast as we could.

Funny though, the reverse is the case. if at all, we are the reason why God cannot   move as fast as He could or would like to because we’re so young and our paces so short”.

Wow!! Those simple words moved me greatly by reminding me of just how much God desired for everyone of His children to grow up spiritually. By the time i hurried to put down the message in my journal, the words of Jesus  in John 16:12(AMP) came to mind

“I have still many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them or to take them upon you or to grasp them now”

quickly followed by those of the apostle Paul Hebrews 5:11-14(ERV)

“We have many things to tell you about this. But it is hard to explain because you have stopped trying to understand. 12 You have had enough time that by now you should be teachers. But you need someone to teach you again the first lessons of God’s teaching. You still need the teaching that is like milk. You are not ready for solid food. 13 Anyone who lives on milk is still a baby and is not able to understand much about living right. 14 But solid food is for people who have grown up. From their experience they have learned to see the difference between good and evil.

Much as I would like to es pound on some of the implications of these two statements, I would only add by saying that both men clearly spoke of how they could not say or teach some things which although they knew would be beneficial to their followers yet they could not say or teach because their followers were not ‘spiritually mature enough’ to understand what it was they wanted to say. Furthermore, by both their statements, they showed and taught us that what God can teach us or even do through us His children) is directly related or proportional ;0) to how spiritually  mature we are. Meaning that, the older we are the faster God can walk us into the various stages of our destiny but the younger we are and the longer it takes us to spiritually mature, the more time it will take for God to walk us into the next stage of His plan for our lives.

It is indeed my prayer that we all remain committed to practicing the disciplined that make for good spiritual growth so that we can fulfill God’s plans and purposes for our lives in HIS TIME and not delay that plan because of our own slothfulness or unwillingness to grow up. May the Holy Spirit help us all, in Jesus name…..I hope you screamed a loud AMEN!!!  \(^0^)/ PEACE!
